QUESTIONS![](http://www.alpha-phonics.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/A-P-CD-9-19-127x150.jpg)
& ANSWERS:
Surprisingly, We do not get very many questions here at Intergalactic Headquarters of Alpha-Phonics Publishing .
The reason seems to be that is so simple to implement. But we had a little flurry in the past two weeks and thought our Homeschooling Friends might like to know about the questions and how we answered them.
QUESTION:
1).We (Alpha-Phonics Publisher) Asked Mom how she liked A-P:
ANSWER:
SEPTEMBER 6, 2018
AP worked well with our son. We used it as a reinforcement after he could already read quite a bit. It increased his understanding and improved his spelling. We like the simplicity of the program

2). Student with dyslexia:
QUESTION:
I am currently assigned to tutor a child who has been diagnosed with dyslexia. How do I approach him as far as teaching phonetically? Or is there a modified way to handle this situation using the methods outlined in Alpha-Phonics? Thank you.

Alpha-Phonics the Book on CDRom
ANSWER:
Tutors usually only get the most difficult cases. He was always able to overcome their problems.
If there is a secret he had it was to use the Alpha-Phonics program intact, as it is, without any changes. The only change would be to go very slowly. Take your and your student’s time. Both Tutor and student need to keep a positive attitude. Do your best to reinforce the student as you go.
For a little more on this we have attached an article we include in the back of most Alpha-Phonics books. On the second page is a note “About Dyslexia.” Please read it. If you are using Alpha-Phonics for the first time it would be good to read the entire article: “TIPS.”We would be very pleased to hear back from you in the coming months so we can know how you and your student did. We wish you the best success.

3). Child asks Teacher/Mom about “other sounds” of some letters
QUESTION:
My child ask me questions like how do you know when letters say their other sounds? Example: Change vs Chief or the F sound in fish vs Phone. The book doesn’t explain that so how do I explain it to them. Thanks
ANSWER:
Dear Kayla,
There are some exceptions to the usual way of sounding out ch for example. The vowel that follows the “ch” makes the difference in hows they are sounded out.
In the cases of the fish and the Phone there is no rule. In these cases you simply have to learn and remember the sound of the particular words as they customarily sound in conversation. But remember that the basic sounds are about 85 % regular. That is, they will always be pronounced as you would expect them to be sounded out.The book lists “irregular” pronunciations by placing them in a”box.”
Apha-Phonics contains about 3,500 unduplicated words. When your student finishes the book she already built a big vocabulary. From there you expand the vocabulary by looking up new unfamiliar words (and their pronunciations) in the dictionary.
Tell your daughter not to worry. She will find dealing with these irregularities will not be too hard and will get easier as she builds her vocabulary.
Your daughter asking these types of questions is a very good sign. She is really alert and wants to know……to learn! Please let me know if you have any more questions in the future.
