Years of helping students succeed

The secret behind the success of Alpha-Phonics is simple.

English is an alphabetic language. When you understand how alphabetic writing systems work, you’ll understand why the phonics-first approach is the best suited method for teaching to read and write in English.

The genius of the alphabetic writing system is that we only need to learn the letters. Each letter (or letter combination) stands for a sound. To write a word we break it down into its sounds and then write the letters that represent those sounds. To read a word we look at the letters, identify their sounds, and blend the sounds together to make words.

Alpha-Phonics introduces the letters and their sounds in a simple, step-by-step approach, starting with a few letters and sounds and blending them into simple words. Once students understand how to blend letter sounds to make words, they are able to learn more letter sounds and read more complex words. As their reading vocabulary grows, their reading level moves upward. Once the method of sounding out words has been learned, even the irregular letter combinations and their sounds are added at a pace that is easy to follow. The teacher can monitor the student’s rate of progress and adjust the lesson plan accordingly – reviewing or even skipping lessons when in the interest of the student.

By the time they have studied the 128 lessons in our book, students have been exposed to every letter/sound combination in the English language. All that is needed then is to continue practicing reading and writing, thereby improving their skills.
